Cisco has announced fog computing, a platform that combines Linux with its Internetworking Operating System to create a distributed computing infrastructure. This will be used ultimately to buildin computing capability into Cisco IoT routers, switches and IP (Internet Protocol) video cameras. The architecture is called Cisco IOx, and was showcased at the utility-industry trade show Distributech in San Antonio, Texas, USA. It promises to bring devices closer to the IoT network for enterprises to benefit immediately from actionable data generated by devices.
