eSIM Technology Expected To Power More Than 3.6 Billion IoT Devices By 2030

The latest research by Omdia predicts that the adoption of electronic SIMs (eSIMs) in the Internet of Things (IoT) sphere will increase from slightly over 1 billion in 2023 to more than 3.6 billion by 2030.

eSIM technology is expected to drive efficiency in the cellular IoT market, offering enterprises increased versatility and choice. The market growth is also fueled by trends such as 5G RedCap, Massive IoT via 5G, and increased demands from enterprises.

The newly introduced GSMA SGP.32 eSIM specification is seen as a significant advancement, offering advantages in cost, flexibility, and longevity for hardware OEMs. Omdia’s forecast for eSIM adoption is supported by a survey of over 700 global IoT enterprises, with around 90 percent expressing plans to adopt eSIM technology in the next two years, prioritizing benefits such as improved network reliability, cost management, and compliance with regulations.
