The International CES is a much-looked forward to event by almost every company and enthusiast around the world who is in the business of anything remotely technology. Held in the first week of January every year in Las Vegas, USA, CES has, over the years, become a global platform to showcase technology, good....and well, some not so good. This year, there's added attraction. For this time, machines, gadgets and devices shall finally meet apps & the web in a big way. Ahead of the big event, CES has published a booklet highlighting five technology trends to watch in the coming year, involving driverless cars to digital health care. Those of us in the know recognise this as the Internet of Things (IoT). So, what can one look forward to at the CES 2014? Since the exhibition is humungous (over 20,000 new products are expected to be shown off to 152,000 tech trade attendees), obviously this website cannot list out each and every IoT product that shall be unveiled there. But here's a quick primer: ConvenientPower, the Hong Kong based designer of wireless ppower technology shall debut the WoW Z, which it claims to be the world’s first magnetic resonance technology to wirelessly charge Qi mobile phones at distances of up to 18mm, three times more than today’s Qi solutions allow. Wireless charging at longer distances, with greater efficiency, and with reduced heat generation and energy consumption, has been a demand by consumers and wireless operators in the use of thicker mobile device sleeves and covers because they add to the height through which charging takes place. Arrayent, a Cloud-based platform targeted at manufacturers and retailers, will showcase a lineup for new connectivity solutions as part of its IOT Platform for Connected Products and Systems. On the heels of its $11.9 million Series B Funding Round led by DCM Ventures and Intel Capital last month, Arrayent will announce new products at this year's CES that are designed to enable manufacturers of consumer products, retailers and service providers to strengthen their relationships with consumers. GainSpan Corporation, which is into ultra-low power Wi-Fi connectivity, will showcase its latest wireless solutions for the Internet of Things here. The company will feature its next-generation GS2000 Wi-Fi and combo Wi-Fi/ZigBee IP chips and modules. While major car manufacturers like BMW and Mercedes-Benz will be showcasing their self-driving cars at the CES 2014, Elektrobit Automotive will talk of its next-generation automotive infotainment systems and navigation trends by phone here. EB is a developer of software-based driver-assistance, navigation and infotainment systems, and its systems currently are on the road in millions of vehicles built by global car makers such as Audi, BMW, Cadillac, Daimler, Ford, General Motors, Mercedes Benz and Volkswagen. Cisco will turn out in full force at the CES 2014. Chairman and CEO, John Chambers will deliver a keynote address on January 7, where he's likely to share Cisco’s vision for the Internet of Everything (IoE).
