Huawei shows off LiteOS, an operating system for household and business gadgets

One of the world’s biggest telecommunications equipment makers, China’s Huawei Technologies Co Ltd launched a special operating system around the Internet of Things (IoT) called LiteOS, made to allow household and business appliances to communicate with each other.

The OS was unveiled at an event in Beijing, as part of Huawei’s ‘Agile IoT’ architecture. Analysts are hailing this move as a major move by Huawei into the IoT sector. The Chinese company now faces competition from Google to Intel Corp to IBM.

Huawei executives said Agile architecture was a free and open standard that would allow hardware designers to make connectable devices.

In March this year, Huawei had showcased wearables including the Huawei Watch, TalkBand B2, and TalkBand N1 for consumers to stay connected, on the eve of Mobile World Congress 2015.
