Xiaomi launches smart module using Marvell chipset

marvell smart module Marvell, a world leader in providing complete silicon solutions from mobile communications to storage, Internet of Things (IoT), Cloud, among other things, has announced that Xiaomi had launched a smart module built on the Marvell IoT chipset. The module had also been integrated into Xiaomi’s smart air purifier and smart hub, part of its portfolio of smart home product offerings.

Marvell said in a written statement that the new design built on the previously announced Xiaomi’s smart-plug and extended the partnership between the two companies in the Smart Home industry.

Powered by the Marvell IoT chipset, the Xiaomi smart module integrated WiFi connection and complete communication protocol with Xiaomi Cloud, which enabled third-party manufacturers to upgrade to smart devices from traditional devices. This module supported multiple functions, including power on device detect, firmware upgrades, network reliability and consistency maintenance of the connection status indication.

Marvell is a world leader in the development of storage, communications, and consumer silicon solutions.

“Our continued collaboration with Marvell ensures China’s consumers will benefit from innovations for the Connected Smart Home,” said K K Wong, Vice President and Co-Founder of Xiaomi. “Marvell’s innovative end-to-end, field-proven IoT platforms have helped us accelerate our product development. Given the growing demand for simplified smart home automation, we’re confident Marvell provides hardware solutions to further the development of our smart home portfolio, making for a smarter, more connected consumer experience.”

Marvell’s unified IoT platforms feature the Cortex-M3 microcontroller (88MC200) and a best-in-class 802.11n wireless radio (88W8801) that together provide the essential pieces for enabling Xiaomi’s smart module and hardware strategy. This is coupled with Marvell’s EZ-Connect Software SDK that enables Xiaomi to rapidly develop smart home products and integrate them with its own cloud services and mobile app to power a complete smart home ecosystem.

Marvell’s latest technologies are being showcased at the Mobile World Congress 2015 currently on in Barcelona, Spain.
