French co Sagemcom to enter the IoT business

sagemcom IoTRueil Malmaison, France, March 3, 2015: The French end-to-end solutions company for multi-energy smart meters and a known player in the design and deployment of telecommunication networks, Sagemcom today announced at the Mobile World Congress that it was entering the Internet of Things (IoT) business. It added that it had selected LoRa(TM) to build its solution.

Sagemcom had decided to develop its solution according to the protocol LoRaWAN of the LoRa(TM) Alliance of which the Sagemcom group was a founding member. The LoRa(TM) solution enabled connection of millions of objects on open frequency radio networks at optimised cost. Also, this particular technology was highly resistant to noise and was low power optimised.

Sagemcom is a manufacturer of telecommunication networks, which was expected to stand it in good stead in its development of the components for the IoT solutions.

According to Patrick Sevian, Chief Executive Officer of Sagemcom, “The Internet of Things is the way to propose an infinite choice of applications and services that will change the life of millions of people and companies in the coming years. At the crossroad of our historical core business in communicating terminals in the fields of broadband and energy and telecom networks, the Internet of Things is a market where we must be present “.

Sagemcom operates on the broadband (digital home, set-top boxes, Internet routers, telephony and multimedia terminals), telecoms and energy (smartgrid and energy management) and document management (printing terminals, software and solutions, digital production workflow) markets. The company boasts of revenues of around 1.3 billion euros, and currently has offices across five continents.
