Windows 10 available on Raspberry Pi 2. For IoT developers, it’s free

Raspberry Pi 2Here’s how IT major Microsoft continues to stay ahead in the Internet of Things (IoT) race.

The same day as the Raspberry Pi Foundation took the wraps off the second version of its mini computer, Microsoft, too, announced that its Windows 10 software will support the Raspberry Pi 2 as well. Not only that, for IoT developers, it will be available free.

The two announcements were made on the Windows official blog today. Here are the extracts:

Today, the Raspberry Pi Foundation announced the retail availability of their new board, the Raspberry Pi 2. We’re excited to join the Foundation in also announcing that Windows 10 will support Raspberry Pi 2, which will be free for the Maker community through the Windows Developer Program for IoT later this year.

Last year we took an important step in embracing the Maker movement by creating the Windows Developer Program for IoT and delivering Windows for the Intel Galileo board. We are taking the next step by bringing Microsoft’s leading development tools, services, and ecosystem to the Raspberry Pi community for free through our Windows Developer Program for IoT.

Till recently, the Raspberry Pi was the smallest computer in the world. The Pi 2 is available for about US $35 developers, making it also one of the cheapest in the world.
