As the Internet of Things (IoT) technology gets even more popular and is adopted by more and more players, the risk of network congestion keeps getting proportionately higher.
Now, a team of researchers from the University of Pittsburgh, USA, has proposed a system that gives IoT devices a side channel to avoid these kind of slowdowns.
In a paper, ‘EasyPass: Combating IoT Delay with Multiple Access Wireless Side Channels’”, the team shows IoT devices deferred from a business’s main network to an exclusive channel. This channel, it said, may be used when traffic was high, reducing networking costs.
In lab tests, EasyPass managed a 90 percent reduction in delay over a network with 100 IoT devices.
