Thingstream acquired by Swiss co u-blox

Thingstream, a provider of the Internet of Things (IoT) communication-as-a-service has said it had been acquired by Swiss co u-blox, a global provider of positioning and wireless communication technologies. The acquisition enables u-blox to offer its 7,000 customer base complementary value-added services for fast growth IoT projects, said an announcement by Thingstream on its Website. Terms were not announced.

Thingstream’s IoT communication-as-a-service offering removes the barriers to IoT adoption by simplifying the process of getting meaningful data from devices to the Cloud securely and at scale. The strategic fit between u-blox and Thingstream will enable both organisations to capitalise on and capture significant market share in the global IoT market, said Thingstream.

Thomas Seiler, u-blox CEO, commented in the announcement, “We are delighted to bring Thingstream under the u-blox business umbrella. Many of our existing 7,000 global customers will really benefit from this fantastic service given it removes all the barriers to getting data from their devices into the cloud.”

Philipp Bolliger, CEO, Thingstream, said by joining u-blox they will be able to accelerate the rollout of their low-cost, low-power and global IoT communication-as-a-service solution.
