Barcelona, Feb. 25, 2019: Industrial Development Bureau (IDB) of Ministry of Economic Affairs Taiwan is committed to transform Taiwan’s ICT industry from technology oriented to innovative service driven. Given Taiwan’s sound infrastructure in broadband and strength in software and hardware integration, Taiwan is in an ideal position with an upper hand to purse smart city development, and to seek new opportunities by exporting turnkey solutions to be localized in other countries.

Taiwan’s Smart City 3.0 Model to drive user-centric solutions

The essence of smart city is to facilitate people’s everyday life with the help of ICT, and meeting people’s needs to achieve better efficiency and higher satisfaction. Through implementing various national policies and initiatives such as the “Smart City Development Project,” Taiwan utilizes public-private-people (PPP) co-creation model to leverage resources from both public and private sectors to facilitate smart services in Taiwan, and to expand to the global market.

Learning from past experiences, it is important to develop smart solutions based on users’ needs. By leveraging resources and feedback from local governments, industries, startups, and local residents, user-centric smart solutions in areas such as healthcare, agriculture, transportation, retail and more are developed as a result of this great synergy.

“Migrating from 4G to 5G, cross-domain applications are the key drivers to both technology development and industry prosperity. Taiwan’s strength in hardware and software integration allows us to become key partners to the global ecosystem,” says representative of the Smart City Development Project Office delegated by IDB.

At Mobile World Congress 2019, the IDB-led Taiwan Pavilion (Hall 5, Stand 5A61) will demonstrate innovative solutions that provide operational management and decision support in smart governance and agriculture, AI-empowered healthcare solution to provide chronic disease prediction and prevention, as well as many more to address needs in smart transportation, tourism, retail, education and energy.
