Spanish satellite company’s new IoT move

By adding more competent satellites to its fleet, Spanish startup FOSSA Systems, which runs a constellation for tying together low-power monitoring devices, intends to transition its experimental projects into full-fledged commercial services this year.

13 picosatellites from the three-year-old firm are now in low Earth orbit, according to this report.

CEO of FOSSA (Free Open Source Software and Aerospace), Julián Fernández, claimed that pilot clients in the logistics and oil and gas industries had contributed to the company’s US $1 million in income to date.

The constellation provides basic connectivity for monitoring and tracking functions outside of terrestrial networks using Long-Range Radio (LoRa), a low-power wide area network protocol utilised by the majority of Internet of Things (IoT) devices.
