Smart cities enabler Paris-based OpenDataSoft raises €1.5 million

Paris, France, July 2, 2015: The Paris-based OpenDataSoft that is into developing turnkey SaaS platforms designed for smart and easy transformation of all types of data into innovative services has announced it had raised €1.5 million from the venture capital fund Aurinvest.

OpenDataSoft claimed to be not only a pioneer in Open Data but also an API specialist. It also claimed to be the first company to develop a turnkey platform designed to enhance the value of data through interactive visualisations and APIs. Thanks to its user-friendly interface making it easy to publish and explore data, OpenDataSoft said it was able to tackle the challenges posed by the development of smart cities.

Said Jean-Marc Lazard, Chief Executive Officer of OpenDataSoft, “Local governments, companies and administrations are becoming more and more aware of how important it is to open their data and make APIs available to their ecosystem. How could one launch a viable smart city project without effectively sharing the data produced by city leaders and citizens? OpenDataSoft positions itself as the ideal partner to address these priorities and support the sustainable urban transformation.”

OpenDataSoft has over 50 customers – all active innovators in public services – in just over three years.

Among them:

Cities: Paris, Brussels, Toulouse, Issy-les-Moulineaux, Agen, Durham, etc.
Regions: Île-de-France, Corse, etc.
Departments: Sarthe, Pas-de-Calais, Alpes de Haute-Provence, etc.
Large companies: Keolis, EDF, GrDF, ERDF, SNCF, Veolia, Suez, Ouest France, L’Equipe, etc.
Public administrations: French Ministry of Higher Education, French Ministry of Agriculture, among others.

Earlier this year, the startup managed to bag customers in the United States and Australia.

OpenDataSoft said on its Site that this funding round would pave the way for international expansion and strengthen it’s team. Jean-Marc Lazard said, “This investment marks a turning point for our startup. It will allow us to immediately allocate important resources to the development and the promotion of our solution and conquer, at a faster pace, new markets in Europe and North America.”

Founded in 2011, the company powers data sharing portals for customers such as Total, AXA, the French Ministry of the Interior, the Paris Region, the City of Brussels, the French National Railway Company, Veolia, m2ocity, among others.
