Smart building could be the key for IoT in enterprise: Survey

A new survey has found that smart buildings could be the core applications for the Internet of Things (IoT) in an enterprise.

Conducted by open networked wireless control and operation solutions for smart buildings company, Smart Daintree, the survey was carried out to gain insight into the awareness around the ‘Enterprise Internet of Things’ (E-IoT) and today’s building automation technologies for smart buildings.

The key finding that smart buildings were the core application, said Daintree, was a clear sign that open standards-driven solutions including Daintree Networks’ ControlScope would help bridge the gap between ‘Operations’ and IT groups. IT executives will have to work closely with facility executives to maximize the potential of the IoT.

Mandeep Khera, Daintree Networks Vice President, Marketing and Channels explained, in a written statement, “The IoT survey contains some valuable insights for the building automation industry. For example, last year our survey reported that 41 percent of respondents were not familiar with the term IoT. This survey shows a drop to 17 percent and a growing awareness for the term. Also of note is that 84 percent felt it was important to improve operational efficiencies through the integration of the Enterprise Internet of Things. In addition, the survey validated Daintree Networks’ continued belief that open standards-driven solutions, such as ours, enable the ability to future proof an investment in IoT for smart buildings with 80 percent of respondents agreeing.”
