Sky and Zurich Insurance have unveiled a package that combines smart home technology with home insurance.
The Sky Protect Smart Home Insurance service includes a range of smart home tech products, such as a video doorbell, indoor camera, leak detectors, motion sensor and contact sensors, that are all accessible through the Sky Protect app. The move comes after Sky conducted research that found 27 per cent of participants were considering purchasing smart technology in 2018, with 38 per cent saying it would make them feel safer and 33 per cent believing it would protect their homes from intruders.
The launch of Sky Protect is the latest addition to Sky’s portfolio, with the firm moving to diversify and ensure its long-term success. The UK home insurance market offers a significant opportunity for Sky, according to analysts. Zurich UK CEO Tim Bailey said the partnership between the two firms combined Zurich’s insurance expertise with Sky’s technology and customer reach. Sky Protect aims to prevent losses and provide financial peace of mind, Bailey added.
