NNNCo to provide IoT network for City of Gold Coast

IoT agreement

The Australian company National Narrowband Network Co (NNNCo) will be partnering with the City of Gold Coast, Australia, council to deploy an Internet of Things (IoT) network covering an area of more than 1300 square kilometres.

According to news reports, the network will be Australia’s biggest using the low-power wireless standard LoRaWAN and will be available to support a range of IoT applications throughout the local government area.

In July this year, the Lake Macquarie City Council had officially unveiled its planned IoT network with business arm Dantia and commercial partner NNNCo. The latter had signed a 20-year contract with the council to use its real estate to install the transceivers.

City of Gold Coast Chief Innovation and Economy Officer Ian Hatton said the LoRA network would form a “key step in the City’s digital city program”.

City of Gold Coast has immediate plans to utilise the network for large-volume use cases including digital water metering, waste management and community infrastructure such as parks and sporting fields.
