Cisco’s recently released report – Global Cloud Index – says there would be massive migration to the Cloud up to 2020.

Moving to the Cloud was one of the biggest agendas for Enterprises today. Cisco estimates it shall account for 92 per cent of the data center traffic by 2020. Moreover, Cloud traffic is expected to increase 3.7 times to 14.1ZB per year by 2020, driven largely by decided and rapid migration of Enterprises to Cloud architectures, whether public, private or hybrid.

Traditional data centers are being replaced in attention and utility by Cloud-enabled data centers, the report pointed out. According to the results, business workloads will dominate the data center applications, being spurred by the growth in the Internet of Things, Analytics and Database workloads. The three will comprise 22 per cent of the total business workloads.

The number of people using personal Cloud storage is expected to jump to 3 billion from a current number of 1.3 billion users (2015 numbers). This will be shaped by the rapid adoption of video and social networking, followed by search.

With data demands increasing multi-fold, hyper-scale data centers will proliferate to become 47 per cent of all data centers. Moreover, data traffic in such centers is expected to quintuple by 2020, accounting for 53 per cent of all the data traffic in the world.
