M2M company Neul launches two-way area networking system for IoT

M2M pioneer Neul has unveiled its new two-way, wide-area networking solution for the Internet of Things (IoT), called NeulNET.

Based on the Weightless open standard, the NeulNET system is designed specifically for the Internet of Things; providing coverage, battery life, module cost and simplicity of operation which far out-reaches today’s GPRS, 3G, CDMA and LTE WAN solutions.

The solution, which includes the NeulNET Connected Device Platform, an NN2510 base station for network rollout and NT1001 terminal modules incorporating Neul’s Iceni rf transceiver chip, operates in licensed and unlicensed spectrum. Neul said it will work across a variety of frequencies from global unlicensed metering bands (169MHz or lower) up to and including sub GHz cellular bands.

The company said in a release that NeulNET comprised all the elements that an operator needed to provide a scalable, secure, resilient and economical service offering, enabling them to capitalize on the huge ‘Internet of Things’ opportunity. This included the NeulNET Connected Device Platform (CDP) which provides Cloud-based services for managing service levels, authentication and billing together with device management, the NN2510 base station for network rollout and the NT1001 terminal modules incorporating Neul’s Iceni RF transceiver chip, among others.

This solution provides two-way, managed communication with QoS for M2M devices and the IoT. The system was designed to operate in licensed and unlicensed spectrum and works across a variety of frequencies from global unlicensed metering bands (169 MHz or lower) up to and including sub-GHz cellular bands.

Chief Executive Officer of Neul Stan Boland said, “The Internet of Things promises a world of new services, lower operating costs and more efficient systems and products which improve quality of life. To enable this, small, super-low cost Things need to communicate with services running in the cloud, often from underground or deep within buildings, and run for many years on a single battery. Until now, network operators couldn’t provide a data communications service to deliver on this promise. Our system offers service providers a comprehensive solution, enabling them to grow their revenues by capitalizing on the Internet of Things opportunity.”

The NeulNET Connected Device Platform will be offered to network operators as a low-cost service, charged on a ‘per device, per month’ basis, providing and managing all the key components against service level agreements. NeulNET, incidentally, supports high volumes of low data Weightless devices, providing operators with a customised, agile network solution.
