Logitech’s ‘Pop’ aims to rule your smart home

This article was first published on our sister Site, Digital World Native.

The newly launched Logitech Pop Switch Starter Pack & its companion Add-On  Home Switch centers around a programmable button with which you can carry out actions with a push & so control your smart home IoT-connected devices. The switch comes ready for controlling things like lighting & dimming, locks, blinds & other connected devices. This means that you can turn off all your lights & draw your blinds with just one push of a button, making it a really useful device.

The new product is similar to Amazon Web Service’s (AWS) Dash Buttons, which were recently covered in a post on our affiliated Site, & is more focused than the AWS product on smart home control. The Dash has a lot more to do with 1-button  buying of stuff from Amazon, although it too is programmable & can handle smart home devices.

logitechpopWhat makes the Pop Home different is that, off the bat, it comes with compatibility with a wide range of products from 1st line manufacturers like LIFX, Phillips Hue, Lutron & Insteon, & it lets you mix & match product controls on an individual switch. You can trigger 3 different types of action with single, double or long presses on the switch, which will, for example turn a smart product on/off, trigger scene presets or access favorite stations or music playlists.

You can set the device up easily with the Pop app, which is available on both Android & iPhone. Once installed, the app will scan your Wi Fi network for compatible connected devices on your home network. The app then lets you assign individual or multiple devices to button pushes & can combine smart home control with home entertainment  activities like triggering TV viewing or music watching.
