Lenovo launches smart technology for a more connected world at MWC

Barcelona, Feb. 26, 2019:  Lenovo reaffirmed its vision of bringing smarter technology to more people, and ushering in an era of intelligent transformation through new product launches at the Mobile World Congress 2019 (MWC ’19) from across its portfolio – from PCs and smart devices to cutting edge Data Center technology and solutions, including a Lenovo IoT server.

The latest lineup showcases intelligent devices, including new ThinkPad, IdeaPad and IdeaCentre PCs, and the newest smartphones from Motorola, including innovations like the just launched new moto g7 family and moto z3 with the 5G Moto Mod, the world’s first 5G upgradeable smartphone.

But what got everyone’s attention was the Internet of Things (IoT) server launched by Lenovo’s Data Center Group called the ThinkSystem SE350 edge server, which is part of a family of future offerings, along with new IoT and edge computing solutions.

This purpose-built server will come to market this summer and is half the width and significantly shorter than a traditional server, making it ideal for deployment in tight spaces. It can be mounted on a wall, stacked on a shelf or mounted in a rack.

Lenovo said the ThinkSystem SE350 “puts increased processing power, storage and network closer to where data is generated, allowing actions resulting from the analysis of that data to take place more quickly.” Since these edge servers are typically deployed outside of secure data centers, they include technology that encrypts the data stored on the device if it is tampered with, only enabling authorized users to access it. In addition, the server will support both WiFi and LTE connectivity.
