Toronto, Jan. 23, 2018: Toronto-based company Kepler has launched a satellite for Internet of Things (IoT), successfully inserting it into operating orbit. Initial contact with KIPP indicated the spacecraft was “healthy and performing as expected.”

Writing on the official blog, Mina Mitry, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer said KIPP was the first commercial LEO spacecraft to operate in Ku-band, a highly sought-after frequency band for satellite communications – especially amongst many of the planned mega constellations. “This launch will put to use our recently awarded spectrum license to operate our 140 satellite LEO constellation. Landing favorable licensure was a tremendous effort that took over two years and would not have been possible without the overwhelming support of the Canadian government,” he said.

Founded in 2015, Kepler develops next-generation satellite communication technologies and provides global data services with the intent on incrementally deploying products and technology in the pursuit of building the Internet in space.
