India’s Hyderabad airport gets IoT-enabled trolleys

India is a vast, potential market for the Internet of Things (IoT) products and services. Already, some IoT products have started hitting the market.

One such is an IoT driven trolley introduced recently by the GMR Hyderabad International Airport. This, it said, was part of its overall plan to use the IoT as a tool to augment its services and operations.

The ‘Smart Baggage Trolley Management system’ can be tracked and maintained in real time. The entire fleet of Hyderabad airport’s 3,000 trolleys have been enabled with the technology, substantially reducing waiting time for passengers and ensuring availability, according to a press release issued on Friday.

The trolleys have an inbuilt alert mechanism, in case of any trolleys carried out of a ‘no airport zone’ area, it generates an alert message tipping off the location for necessary action to be taken.
