IDC’s Top 10 predictions for global future of connectedness

Global market research firm International Data Corporation (IDC) has issued a set of predictions for “connectedness 2021” in which it has said that by 2025, 75 percent of enterprises in industrial verticals like manufacturing, logistics, and mining will adopt private 5G networks to achieve network reliability/coverage and maintain data control and security.

In a separate report, IDC has also forecast that China would surpass the United States to become the world’s largest Internet of Things (IoT) market in 2024. That country’s spending on IoT was expected to reach around US $300 billion by 2024, with the compound annual growth rate to stand at 13 percent in the next five years.

In a post on its official blog, the research agency has pointed out that in the past decade, connectivity has emerged as a key foundational enabler of digital initiatives, from supporting ubiquitous mobility to enabling robust and secure connections to Cloud platforms. Connectivity had never been more critical for organizations, it said.

In its Top 10 predictions, IDC has said through 2022, 40 percent of enhanced digital customer experiences would continue to fail because of underinvestment in intelligent, dynamic network architectures and technologies required for modern applications.

What’s more, by 2023, 60 percent of enterprises will deploy AI-enabled tools and functions to manage network performance issues proactively to deliver improved performance of applications by as much as 35 percent.
