IBM Watson’s multi-million dollar Munich HQ inaugurated

Munich, February 17, 2017: As we had said on this Website late last year, IBM Watson Group has inaugurated its US $200 million Internet of Things (IoT) headquarters today in Munich, Germany. IBM called it its biggest investment in Europe in more than two decades.

There more than 1,000 IBM engineers and designers will work with IBM clients and partners. The investment is part of a global investment of US $3 billion designed to bring Watson cognitive computing to IoT.

IBM WatsonIBM’s, ‘Genius of Things’ summit took place at the new headquarters – a coming together of IBMers, clients, partners and researchers all committed to the future of the IoT.

Harriet Green, General Manager, Watson Internet of Things, kicked off the festivities with her keynote.

According to an official blog post, two of the day’s sessions investigated where Industry 4.0 was leading companies that were ready to incorporate IoT into their business models. Automation on the factory floor, smart instruments and predictive maintenance were changing the face of manufacturing and yielding impressive results.

Foxconn and Vaillant Group, both presenting at the GoT summit, reported reduced cycle time, elimination of downtime, increased output and improved safety thanks to their adoption of IoT technology.
