IBM announces AI-based asset monitoring service

IBM recently announced the arrival of its market-leading asset monitoring solution, IBM Maximo Asset Monitor.

The new solution is scheduled to have a virtual launch on Nov. 21.

IBM said on its developer blog that the Maximo Asset Monitor enables artificial intelligence (AI)-powered remote monitoring at Enterprise scale for asset maintenance & operations teams seeking to optimise operating performance with alerts, and insights into what is causing failure.

It is a fact that more and more assets across an Enterprise are getting intelligent, what with the proliferation of IoT devices and the adoption of AI to extract value from IoT device data. This is where IBM Maximo and the Asset Monitor steps in.

What the new solution does, says IBM, is to deliver insights to operate and maintain high-value physical assets in asset-intensive industries like oil & gas, energy & utilities, industrial manufacturing, and travel & transportation. With Maximo Asset Monitor, operations chiefs can catch small problems before they become big problems and lead to costly downtime.

The new release will allow developers can publish any externally sourced data, streaming from Customer Data/SCADA, Maximo Portfolio, Weather Company APIs, or Integrated Supply Chain APIs. Developers can also use new REST interfaces to create monitoring dashboards that visualise outputs of the pre-built analytics functions, including AI-based anomaly detection.

Maximo Asset Monitor also includes a new, responsive Web UI based on Carbon, an open-source design system built by IBM. With the IBM Design Language as its foundation, the system consists of working code, design tools and resources, human interface guidelines, and a vibrant community of contributors. This allows developers and designers alike to extend their dashboards using this exciting new open source community project based on React.
