HFCL partners with Microsoft for 5G IoT solutions in India

HFCL, an Indian telecom infrastructure company, has teamed up with Microsoft to develop private 5G solutions that incorporate IoT, Cloud, Edge computing, AI, and analytics technologies. These solutions aim to revolutionize a range of industry verticals, including manufacturing, retail and warehouse, mining, education, defense, railways, and smart cities.

According to a report by CNBCTV18, HFCL has already deployed an Industry 4.0 Private 5G solution at its optical fiber manufacturing plant in Hyderabad, India which uses Microsoft Azure public MEC and HFCL 5G Indoor Small Cell. This pilot program enables real-time fiber defect detection along the fiber production line using video analytics and image processing.

With the rollout of 5G in India, enterprises are increasingly turning to 5G technology to boost their digital transformation efforts. According to GSA, 41% of private networks being rolled out by enterprises are private 5G networks, which allow the deployment of high-performing infrastructure such as robotics, drones, and sensor-based and AI-based automation. HFCL’s collaboration with Microsoft aims to leverage the potential of private 5G networks to transform various industry verticals by enabling the deployment of cutting-edge technologies.
