Google has set up a global Google advisory council – Advanced Technology External Advisory Council (ATEAC) – to consider ethical issues around artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies.

It said in a blog post that the ATEAC will publish a report at the end of 2019. The team includes technology experts, digital ethicists, and people with public policy backgrounds.

This group will consider some of Google’s most complex challenges that arise under AI Principles, like facial recognition and fairness in machine learning.

This inaugural Council (full bios here) will serve over the course of 2019, holding four meetings starting in April.

We recognize that responsible development of AI is a broad area with many stakeholders. In addition to consulting with the experts on ATEAC, we’ll continue to exchange ideas and gather feedback from partners and organisations around the world – Kent Walker, SVP, Global Affairs
