EU set to launch plan for tech & AI

The European Union (EU) is all set to unveil a major plan this Wednesday to help it tackle US and China’s technological might on its own terms, reports news agency Bloomberg as reported by LiveMint.

European Commission Executive Vice President for Digital Affairs Margrethe Vestager will take the covers off the plan. On the EU’s menu: new rules for AI, possible legislation for gate-keeping platforms, plans to make data centers carbon-neutral, as well as incentives for businesses to share information with the aim of forming data pools that bolster innovation.

Earlier, biggies like Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google’s parent company, Alphabet, Apple’s senior vice president for artificial intelligence, John Giannandrea, and Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberghad traveled to Brussels to meet with officials like Margrethe to put forth their own viewpoints on AI and tech.
