Cyan teams up with Vodafone on smart metering in India

This may usher in the smart metering concept in India. The Cambridge, United Kingdom-based Cyan Holdings PLC today announced it had teamed up with Vodafone’s Machine-to-Machine (M2M) team to create joint propositions and develop opportunities for the smart metering market in India.

Cyan Executive Chairman John Cronin was quoted elsewhere as saying that his company’s  focus was to supply smart metering solutions to enable utilities to reduce transmission and distribution losses and protect revenue. The CyLec platform will be installed in Vodafone’s Customer Experience Centre in Mumbai to demonstrate its capability in providing metering solutions.

Cyan is known for its integrated system and software design delivering mesh based flexible wireless solutions for utility metering and lighting control. Incidentally, a few days ago, it announced that a consortium led by Aquameas Instrument Pvt. Ltd (“Aquameas”) has been selected by Essel Utilities (“Essel”) for the first deployment of Cyan’s retrofit CyLec Advanced Metering Infrastructure (“AMI”) solution in India.

Cyan has created technology allowing static electricity meters to become “smart” meters, connecting them wirelessly through a small self-contained box that connects via an existing communications interface on the meter.
