Silicon Valley-based Constellation Research has released a shortlist of 14 Internet of Things (IoT) platforms and Middleware, which includes companies like Hortonworks.

The ‘Constellation ShortList for Internet of Things Platforms and Middleware’, is determined by client inquiries, partner conversations, customer references, vendor selection projects, market share and internal research and, most of all, provide recognisable support for the identified criteria. The companies included on the Constellation ShortList provide the key functionality and requirements for early adopters pursuing digital transformation initiatives.

Constellation Research is an award-winning strategic advisory and futurist research firm, and its analysts serve as innovation advisors for leaders and Global 2000 organisations navigating the challenges of business-model disruption and transformation.

Writing about the list on the official blog, analyst Andy Mulholland said while there wasn’t a common consensus for a definition of an IoT platform, nevertheless, it was possible to itemize eight key functions and to identify 14  candidates that met the most important criteria.

This early market evaluation of key criteria defines an IoT platform, along with its requisite middleware integration capabilities, and identifies the most visible and viable platforms/middleware products in the market.
