China calls for faster push into 5G, IoT

China has released a new grand digitalization plan, calling for a faster push into 5G, IoT, and supercomputing engines of growth.

According to a report in the South China Morning Post, the plan, released by the ruling Chinese Communist Party, states that an acceleration of digitalization is essential to fully promoting China’s “great rejuvenation”. The plan sets a goal of making significant progress in digitalization by 2025, and reaching “world-leading levels” by 2035.

5G, IoT, and supercomputing are all areas of focus for the plan. 5G is a fifth-generation wireless network technology that could support faster download speeds and more reliable connections than previous generations. IoT, or the Internet of Things, is the network of physical devices, vehicles, home appliances and other items embedded with electronics, software, sensors, actuators, and network connectivity that enable these objects to connect and exchange data. Supercomputing is the use of advanced computing to solve complex problems quickly and accurately.

The plan also calls for the development of new digital infrastructure and the implementation of new policies for the digital economy. This includes investing in the development of new digital technologies, such as artificial intelligence and big data, as well as developing a new innovation system, a new digital industry chain, and new digital services and products. In addition, the plan seeks to create a new digital environment that supports the development of digital businesses, the application of digital technologies, and the use of digital information products and services.

The plan also calls for the improvement of digital literacy and the training of personnel in the digital economy. The grand digitalization plan is an ambitious step forward in China’s digitalization efforts, and if successful, could have a major impact on the country’s economy and society. If the goals are achieved, China could become a global leader in digital technology and innovation, and pave the way for a new era of economic growth.
