‘BIO-key’ debuts biometric and bluetooth controlled bike locks

BIO-key International, Inc., a provider of biometric authentication and security solutions, yesterday announced to debut its fingerprint biometric and bluetooth-enabled bicycle lock – TouchLock Bike – in the United States (US) via Amazon.

TouchLock Bike was created in response to the growing need for robust yet convenient security options for bikes, according to a press release. According to a World Bank estimate, there are over two billion bicycles around the world today. With population increase and the emergence of electric-assisted bicycles and e-bikes, the count could very well reach five billion by 2050. Unfortunately, theft is a major pain point for bike owners worldwide.

TouchLock Bike is available in three versions: fingerprint (FP), Bluetooth only and fingerprint plus Bluetooth (Pro). Each version is durable, weather resistant and can be shared, claimed the company.

TouchLock BT (Bluetooth only) allows users to unlock their bike using facial recognition, a fingerprint or a PIN by using the TouchLock app on their smartphone.

Mike DePasquale, Chairman and CEO, BIO-key, said in the statement, “BIO-key’s TouchLock Bike locks are sturdy, intelligent and easy to use, leveraging the security and convenience of our biometric technology as well as Bluetooth communications. The user-friendly nature of our TouchLock Bike series makes it more likely that owners will lock their bikes at every opportunity, and by removing keys and combinations that can be lost, we believe TouchLock provides greater protection against theft. Further, the flexibility of our solution enables users to enrol friends, colleagues and family for convenient TouchLock access wherever your bicycle may be.”
