Arm enables global IoT proliferation with expansion of Pelion IoT platform

San Jose, California, April 16, 2020: Technology company Arm has announced it was focusing its efforts on providing the underlying Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity and management technologies, enabling its partners to quickly make the leap from proof of concepts to massive global scale.

For this, it had recently tied up for a strategic partnership with Hexing. Arm said its Pelion IoT platform was providing the buildings blocks to create full-stack IoT solutions for their customers and to expand into new markets.

Giving details about its Pelion IoT platform, Arm said in a press release that the latter helped with smart metering vendors and utilities deployment, and manage the next-generation advanced metering infrastructure (AMI). Hexing, for example, had leveraged the Pelion Device Management and standard-based Wi-SUN compliant connectivity to help it penetrate new and emerging markets, such as South East Asia, India, South America and Europe, with their smart meters and AMI solutions.

Wi-SUN, said Arm, unlocks radically lower operating costs for large-scale device deployments that is critical for these markets, by offering a mesh network architecture that minimizes direct cellular connections for devices without compromising on bandwidth, throughput or security. Pelion Device Management ensures that these smart meters can be maintained and updated over-the-air throughout their multi-year lifecycles.
