Apple acquires Irish AI startup

Apple has acquired an artificial intelligence (AI) startup Voysis that developed a platform for digital voice assistants to better understand people’s natural language.

According to a report in The Irish Times, the Dublin, Ireland-based Voysis develops digital assistants inside shopping apps, so the software could respond more accurately to voice commands from users.

Voysis, said the report, was founded in 2012 by Peter Cahill who had previously spent 15 years researching speech technology and neural network research. The company has developed a voice recognition platform driven by natural language instructions and search capabilities that is extremely good at recognising and responding to voice commands from users.
