Apple acquires AI startup

Over the weekend came the news that Apple had acquired Seattle, US-based startup Xnor.ai for US $200 million. The latter specialises in low-power, Edge-based artificial intelligence (AI) tools.

According to a report by news agency IANS, Apple, in a statement to GeekWire, said, “Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans.”

Reports say Xnor.ai’s work may be incorporated into future iPhones. Apple has recently been making a push into artificial intelligence through Siri personal assistant and related technologies.
