Amazon’s two new Alexa devices

Amazon has announced two Alexa-enabled devices, both cheaper than the existing Amazon Echo.

The Echo Dot will be available for US $89 and the Amazon Tap for $129.

ecodotThe Echo Dot is a miniature version of the existing Amazon Echo. It hears your voice commands from anywhere in the room it’s placed in. The key difference seems to be that it doesn’t have the same high-quality built in speakers that the Echo has for playing music. You can connect external speakers that Alexa can control, but the Dot’s main focus is on the microphone hardware and voice controls.

The Amazon Tap has high quality speakers for playing music, you have to press a button on the device to issue a voice command.

Features:

  • It uses the Alexa Voice Service when connected to WiFi or a mobile hotspot to play music, read the news, provide weather reports, and even order a pizza
  • Streams all your music via Bluetooth from your phone or tablet
  • Delivers crisp sound powered by Dolby, with dual stereo speakers that provide 360º omni-directional audio
  • Provides up to 9 hours of playback
