iWedia, a leading provider of software solutions for TV devices to service operators and Consumer Electronics manufacturers, today announced the lineup of demos it will present at CES 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada from Tuesday, January 6th through to Friday, January 9th.

This will be the occasion for iWedia to demonstrate for the first time the new release of its ANDROID4TV framework that has been adapted for Android Lollipop and Android TV. ANDROID4TV extends the Android application framework with broadcast / multicast TV functionalities allowing development of a TV application as an Android APK. Note that the ANDROID4TV Java APIs and sample applications are available in open source.

iWedia is extremely proud to showcase Bbox Miami, the brand new Android STB that will be deployed by French telco Bouygues Telecom in January 2015. Last October, Bouygues Telecom has been awarded “Most Innovative Service Provider” at the Broadband InfoVision Awards for this box which uses ANDROID4TV to give access within a unified user interface both to the most premium TV contents and to the catchiest Android apps.

Another use case of ANDROID4TV will be shown, integrated within the Android client application of the Ericsson Mediaroom Reach OTT platform. In that case ANDROID4TV embeds iWedia’s Comedia DTV stack to enhance the Ericsson client application with a range of broadcast TV services (DVB or ATSC) enabled by Comedia.

“iWedia has been pioneering the use of Android for STB in supplying innovative software solutions,” said Hans-Jurgen Desor, CEO of iWedia. “Now that this concept has gained tremendous momentum, we are ready to surf on the trend and to supply operators and manufacturers with field proven software solutions and world class professional engineering services,” he added.

iWedia’s Teatro-3.0 STB software solution for basic connected zappers will be also presented. Based on Linux, the solution exposes JavaScript APIs that are used by its HTML/JavaScript User Interface. It features DLNA (player and renderer) as well as “walled garden” Web services (CE-HTML portals, HbbTV applications). It is pre integrated with leading Conditional Access Systems.

“Teatro-3.0 is ideally suited at emerging markets that migrate to digital TV,” said Giora Golan, VP Business Development at iWedia. “It is a compact solution that runs on resources-limited devices without compromising on features especially with respect to connectivity,” he added.

In the field of the Internet of Things (IoT), OBLO – a cloud-based end-to-end home automation system – will be displayed. OBLO consists of a collection of nodes (based on ZigBee, Bluetooth Low Energy, and Z-Wave), a home manager software (meant to be integrated in a gateway), a cloud–based platform which provides IoT services to manage the nodes, and apps for mobile devices (iOS and Android) which allow accessing the nodes inside the home and over the Internet. This solution enables users to control the smart nodes in their homes whenever they want, wherever they are!

“Connection and availability in their broadest sense are at the core of what we present there,” commented Nikola Teslic, CTO of iWedia. “Our customers request a mature, commercial, field proven technology to connect things and control them. We give them the opportunity to speed up their remote automation projects. Whether we talk about remote testing, configuration and monitoring of STB, or controlling things at home from anywhere, at anytime, to me the philosophy is the same,” he added.
