T-Mobile launches America’s “first” narrowband IoT asset tracking solution

Bellevue, Washington, July 17, 2019: US teleco ‘T-Mobile for Business’ and Roambee have come together to provide an asset tracking solution that will pair with America’s first NB-IoT network

The first narrowband IoT asset tracking solution is now available nationwide from T-Mobile for Business.

Those who can benefit from this narrowband IoT tracker include airlines, 3rd-party logistics providers, auto OEMs, retailers, oil and gas companies, construction and industrial manufacturers, food/beverage companies, SMBs, to name a few.

T-Mobile said in a press release that the Roambee BeeAware asset tracker can be attached easily to shipments, pallets, or individual assets to provide item-level location and temperature monitoring indoors, in-transit and outdoors—leveraging T-Mobile’s NB-IoT network.

“We’re enabling mass market adoption of enterprise asset tracking”, said Sanjay Sharma, Chief Executive Officer of Roambee, in a statement. “Powered by Roambee’s purposefully-built, capex-free sensor technology and asset tracking platform, this solution eliminates the four biggest barriers to enterprise IoT adoption: high cost, cumbersome setup, constant maintenance, and complex data security. Together with T-Mobile’s NB-IoT network and Roambee’s proven solutions that global companies have come to rely on, we’re here to make IoT asset tracking universally deployable on a large scale.”

T-Mobile said unlike CAT-M, this new product operates in the shoulder-lane next to the dedicated LTE spectrum so that data doesn’t have to compete with other, larger network traffic. IoT devices on NB-IoT simply don’t need to operate on more intensive LTE networks, and so don’t require expensive batteries.
