First there was IoT, then, IoET and now, BIoT

realcomlogoHeard of BIoT, anyone? Hoping to cash in on the hype around the Internet of Things (IoT), the Realcomm Conference Group, LLC, a leader in providing technology education and networking opportunities for the commercial, corporate, government and institutional real estate, today announced it will feature BIoT – BUILDINGS Internet of Things at the Realcomm | IBcon 2014. The event is scheduled to be held on June 18-19 in Las Vegas, USA.

To clarify and further define how the IoT was going to impact the commercial, corporate, government and institutional real estate industries, Realcomm has add a “B” to the acronym for BUILDINGS.

In a press statement, Jim Young, co-founder and CEO of Realcomm, said, “If you were to ask industry insiders what the predecessor to the IoT was, most would likely answer M2M (Machine to Machine), which did not catch on as the IoT seems to have. And while this catchy phrase may seem new, the concept of connecting devices and managing buildings over the Internet goes back more than a decade, it’s just finally more affordable and becoming part of mainstream conversations.”

The BIoT discussion will focus on all the components in a building that can be connected to the network (the Internet) for the purpose of creating operational efficiencies, reducing energy consumption, improving occupant experiences (DAS to security),among others.
